WWE has several key events on the horizon: SNME XL, Evolution II, the inaugural two-night SummerSlam, Clash In Paris, Crown Jewel from Australia, and Survivor Series: WarGames, among others. Several swerves and surprises are in the works for these big events, but one return storyline is already fueling backlash against the company.
Celebrities have been a significant part of the WWE Universe ever since the inaugural edition of WrestleMania in 1985. Many of these celebrities grew up as wrestling fans, and later in life, their fame brought opportunities with WWE, such as Jelly Roll. The popular musician mixed it up with The Judgment Day on RAW in 2023 and has made a few other appearances. At SummerSlam 2024, he fulfilled a childhood dream by helping Awesome Truth deal with A-Town Down Under. He also performed multiple songs that night.
SmackDown is headed to Nashville, Tennessee tonight, and several weeks ago it was confirmed that hometown star Jelly Roll would be in attendance. Sources then began reporting that the two-time Grammy-nominated artist was training to make his in-ring debut at SummerSlam on August 1-2, and that tonight’s SNME go-home show would feature an angle to set that match up. Logan Paul is now rumored to make his SmackDown return as well.
Jelly Roll Set To Work With Logan Paul At WWE SummerSlam
Logan Paul is viewed by many as the best celebrity superstar to ever lock up in a WWE ring. The controversial social media star has not wrestled since Money in the Bank on June 7, where he and John Cena lost the 24-minute main event to Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. This was two weeks after Paul failed to dethrone Uso of the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Sources reported this week that Jelly Roll was set to work with a top WWE babyface at SummerSlam. PWInsider now reports that the storyline will see Logan Paul clash with Jelly in his SummerSlam program.
WWE’s creative writing team has been working on the Jelly Roll program for SummerSlam. However, there is said to be nothing to the rumors regarding the 40-year-old artist working with Cody Rhodes, who will challenge John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the inaugural two-night SummerSlam.
No other details on The Maverick and the Son of a Sinner artist were confirmed for SummerSlam, but some sort of tag team match is likely due to the in-ring inexperience of Jelly Roll, who has seemingly lost almost 200 pounds as of June 1.
Logan Paul is currently not advertised for tonight’s SmackDown in Nashville. Jelly Roll is confirmed to appear, while others advertised include Cody Rhodes, Gunther, Jey Uso, Tiffany Stratton, Chelsea Green, Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Randy Orton, Bianca Belair, LA Knight, Charlotte Flair, the Street Profits, Damian Priest, and Nia Jax.
The following matches were announced: WWE Tag Team Champions Street Profits defend vs. The Wyatt Sicks, and Aleister Black vs. Ron Killings.
