John Cena will retire from the WWE ring in less than four months. The Hollywood heavyweight recently worked his last match in Europe, and is set to work his final match in Chicago. After surprising details on Cena’s last stretch were revealed earlier today, now sources are providing updates on his SmackDown career and how they will wrap the historic chapter.
Big Match John will make his final SmackDown appearance during tonight’s live post-Clash In Paris episode from the Allstate Arena near Chicago. The 17-time World Champion made his official WWE TV debut during SmackDown on June 27, 2002, from the same arena. Cena arrived by answering Kurt Angle’s open challenge, but lost the first match of the night in just under six minutes. Now it appears WWE has a similar angle planned to close Cena’s blue brand chapter.
John Cena vs. Sami Zayn Planned For WWE SmackDown
Sami Zayn made his WWE main roster debut during RAW from his hometown of Montreal on May 4, 2015. He failed to dethrone John Cena of the United States Championship after being introduced by Bret Hart to answer Cena’s open challenge. A new report from Bodyslam reveals that Cena vs. Zayn II is planned for tonight’s SmackDown show.
Zayn captured the United States Championship from Solo Sikoa on SmackDown in France last week, and an open challenge has been rumored. With Cena vs. Zayn being planned for tonight, this could end up being a very special SmackDown send-off for the former Undisputed WWE Champion.
New details on Cena’s farewell tour were disclosed earlier today. Cena’s final event has been revealed, along with major send-offs in Boston and New York City.
