Sonya Deville will be out of action until further notice following a torn ACL on WWE SmackDown.
The injury occurred in a tag team match during the July 28th episode, where Deville teamed with Chelsea Green in a losing effort to Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair.
The news was broken by TMZ, who have also announced that the Women’s Tag Team Champion will require surgery on the knee, which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 8th. Sources have told TMZ that there is no timetable for a return to the ring for Deville.
In regards to the future of the titles, this will be addressed on the August 7th episode of Raw. If the titles are to be vacated, this will be the second time due to injury and the third time overall that the championships have had to be relinquished since their inception in 2019, with Morgan and Rodriguez being forced to give up the titles as recently as May 19th.
Sonya Deville Won Her First WWE Championship In 2023
Following a near 6 year run on the main roster, Deville won her first championship on July 17th, defeating Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez to become the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Coincidentally, this was also done so that Morgan could recover from a shoulder injury, being attacked by Rhea Ripley to be written off of television. As is the case with Deville, there is also no window of return for Morgan.
Inside The Ropes would like to wish Sonya Deville a full and speedy recovery.
