Sonya Deville did not come out of her clash with The Queen Unscathed.
In a post on Deville’s Instagram story, the former WWE Official can be seen with a cut above her right eye, which can been stitched closed.
Sonya Deville Shows Wound Suffered In-Ring
Following weeks of physical and verbal confrontations, Deville finally got a title shot against Charlotte Flair on the February 3rd edition of SmackDown.
Sonya Deville had taken offence to the way that The Queen would become women’s champion for the 14th time in her illustrious career. Flair shockingly returned to WWE on the December 30th edition of SmackDown, defeating Ronda Rousey to become the new champion and hold the SmackDown gold for a 7th time.
The closing moments of the match would see Charlotte Flair attempt a moonsault, but Deville got her feet up. Deville then tried to use the ropes for leverage on the pin, but Flair would kick out. The Queen would retain the title via submission, winning the match with the Figure Eight.
While Sonya Deville’s WrestleMania plans have not been confirmed, the same can not be said for her most recent opponent. Charlotte Flair will be defending the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley at the event in Hollywood. Ripley won the opportunity to challenge for the title by being victorious in the 2023 Women’s Royal Rumble match.
The match between Flair and Ripley will be a rematch from 3 years ago, where WrestleMania 36 took place in front of no fans due to the ongoing pandemic. The Queen would defeat The Nightmare, who was NXT Women’s Champion at the time, to capture the title for the second time in her career.
Ripley chose Charlotte Flair as her WrestleMania opponent for this reason. The 2023 Royal Rumble winner believes that with 3 more years of experience, history will not repeat itself for a second time.
