Sonya DeVille Makes Herself Number One Contender For Raw Women’s Championship

Sonya DeVille Bianca Belair

Sonya DeVille used her power as an authority figure to get Bianca Belair to sign an open contract that allows Sonya herself to be next in line for the Raw Women’s Championship.

Since her return to WWE in January 2021 after a lengthy hiatus, Sonya DeVille has served primarily in an on-screen authority role. While she has spent some time in the ring, the former Tough Enough competitor can most often be seen making matches and helping run the show alongside Adam Pearce on both Raw and SmackDown.

However, on the April 11th episode of Monday Night Raw, Sonya DeVille used her power as an authority figure to work her way into the number one contendership for Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s Championship.

After defeating Queen Zelina in one on one action, Belair celebrated her win, saying that she would face any competitor that came for her Raw Women’s Championship. This brought out DeVille, who said that she had taken it upon herself to find Bianca’s next challenger. She listed the many women in line for the championship opportunity, and Belair confirmed that she would take on anyone and would still walk out the Raw Women’s Champion, just as she did at WrestleMania 38.

Sonya DeVille produced a contract for an open challenge, and Belair she said she wasn’t afraid and signed on the dotted line. This led Sonya to build to the reveal of herself as Bianca Belair’s intended opponent.

“Without further ado, she is a generational superstar who defies gender barriers, breaks down social norms, and has impeccable grace and style. A superstar who one year ago promised to return for her shot at the Women’s Title. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome…”

Before finishing, Sonya DeVille attacked Bianca Belair from behind with a chop block to the knee and then laid her out before signing the contract herself and announcing:

“Your next opponent is ME.”

Backstage, Adam Pearce was enraged that Sonya DeVille had used her power as an authority figure in this way, but she said that the contract was signed and that there was nothing he could do about it. She left him with the scathing words:

“Don’t be jealous that I’m still in my prime.”

Elsewhere on Monday Night Raw, R-Truth announced that he would officiate the double wedding of Reggie & Dana Brooke and Akira Tozawa & Tamina. Austin Theory also declared that he would henceforth be known simply as Theory, and the Usos looked to unify the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
