Sonya Deville Believed She Would Never Return To WWE

Sonya Deville has spoken about her belief that she would never be able to return to professional wrestling following her four month absence.

At SummerSlam on August 24, 2020, Deville departed WWE after falling in a Loser Leaves WWE Match to former best friend, Mandy Rose. In truth, the hard hitting warrior had requested time away from the company in order to sort out her personal life and deal with the effects of an attempted kidnapping only weeks earlier.

Gone but not forgotten, Deville made her return to WWE on the January 1, 2021, Friday Night SmackDown and was re-instated to the roster before undertaking a different role one week later when she offered her help to on-screen authority figure, Adam Pearce.

Now, Deville has sat down with the cast of Talking Smack to discuss her time away from the ring, how at one point she never thought she would return and how 2021 will be the blue brand’s year:

“It’s never felt better. It felt like it was never going to happen. A long 4 months off, but you know what, 2021 is going to be the year of Sonya Deville, but also the year of SmackDown. I’m excited about so many things to come for the show and I’m excited to show you guys.

I think anyone that knows me knows that that’s just a natural fit for my personality and I think it’s just a great kind of duo with Pearce right now. I want to make SmackDown a good place to work, and I want the women to get opportunities. I have a lot of things in store, and I think it’s all going to be positive, moving in the upward direction, and that’s all I’m going to tell you.”

While it remains to be seen where Sonya Deville fits into the ongoing tale of Adam Pearce now it seems like the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion will battle Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble, no one can deny that it’s good to have her back in the fold and she was sorely missed during her absence.
