CM Punk has been credited for his old-school mentality.
With many of his matches referencing Bret Hart classics and not relying on a string of high spots, Punk’s mind for the business is more in the veteran camp as opposed to trying to go viral on social media with a death-defying manoeuvre.
Hall of Famer Mark Henry spoke about Punk’s mentality while appearing on Booker T’s Hall of Fame podcast. Henry compared Punk to those in sports who feel that young stars are given too much too soon and how some people believe that this view is outdated:
“I feel like Punk is a lot like some of the people in sports that I know. The people in sports hate the fact that college football and college students are getting paid money now. It’s an old school mentality and the old school mentality rubs young people the wrong way,” said Henry.
“Some people are stuck in their ways, Book, and Punk is stuck in his ways and that’s not a knock. I like conviction, I like somebody that can stand to their guns and they can debate with you on the fact that, ‘You know what, this is why sometimes being old will save your life because I know better. I experienced it, I went through the fire.’ I feel like Punk’s delivery of some of that conviction fell on deaf ears.”
One example that could be seen of Punk using his experience and wisdom for the benefit of wrestling was the alleged disagreement between himself and Jack Perry. According to reports, Jack Perry wanted to use real glass for a spot on an episode of Collision but Punk prevented it for concerns over safety.
One CM Punk Altercation Was Not Real
Along with the disagreement between Punk and Perry, multiple alleged incidents involving the former AEW Champion took place within the promotion. One confrontation that was confirmed to be false was Punk having issues with Miro, which was later to be proven false. Wanting to keep the joke running as long as possible, Miro lied to his wife about the CM Punk argument.
