Some Big Name Stars In The Dark Over WWE Draft

Triple H introducing WWE Draft

The WWE Draft is well underway, and according to a new report, the results are a surprise even to some of the talent involved.

Triple H first announced the latest edition of the WWE Draft on the April 7th episode of SmackDown, promising that it would be the biggest draft in company history. He further explained that any WWE Superstar was eligible to be drafted, indicating that NXT stars would be included in the mix. On the April 24th episode of Raw, he also announced that following the draft, a new World Heavyweight Champion would be crowned and would reign on the brand that Roman Reigns was not a part of.

Ahead of the first night of the draft on April 28th, WWE released a list of names eligible to be drafted on both nights one and two, and both Bray Wyatt and Alexa Bliss were noticeably absent from the lists.

The April 28th episode of SmackDown saw the blue brand get the first draft pick, and unsurprisingly, Roman Reigns was the first name selected. Drafted along with him were his Bloodline allies Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman. Interestingly, The Usos are being drafted separately from The Bloodline, and their fates are set to be determined on Raw. The Usos attempted to recapture the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships in the main event of the show, but Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens emerged victorious.

Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair was drafted to SmackDown, and Cody Rhodes will remain a mainstay on Monday Night Raw. The Street Profits will be moving to SmackDown, and Imperium were are making the transition to the red brand.

NXT Superstars being called up to the main roster included current NXT Women’s Champion Indi Hartwell and NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn. Zoey Stark and JD McDonagh were also called up to Raw as part of the Supplemental Draft.

Some Talent Didn’t Know They’d Be Moving Brands Until WWE Draft Results Were Announced On-Air

According to a new report from PWInsider, some talents – including some big names in the company – were unaware that they’d be switching brands until the announcement was made on SmackDown.

In addition, the report notes that one NXT name was aware that they’d be called up to the main roster, but others were legitimately surprised by news.

The following names remain free agents after going undrafted on Friday:

  • Omos (with MVP)
  • Mustafa Ali
  • Dolph Ziggler
  • Von Wagner (indicating that he will be called up from NXT)

A complete round-up of night one of the WWE Draft is available here. The roster changes will go into effect following WWE Backlash on May 6th.
