The SmackDown Women’s Title match at Extreme Rules just got an extreme new stipulation!
WWE Money In The Bank was the biggest night in the young career of Liv Morgan. The SmackDown star won the Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match before cashing in the briefcase to defeat Ronda Rousey to claim the SmackDown Women’s Title.
Confident in her own ability, and adamant that she had only been defeated as a fluke, Rousey got her rematch at SummerSlam. Despite the former UFC star being in control for much of the contest Morgan eked out the win, but it wasn’t without controversy. As Morgan tapped out from a submission, she also pinned Rousey’s shoulder’s to the mat. The referee only saw Rousey’s shoulders pinned to counted the pin-fall.
This caused Rousey to snap and attack the referee, getting a fine and suspension for her troubles.
With Rousey suspended Morgan got a new challenger in the form of Shayna Baszler, but again retained her title. However, once reinstated, Rousey quickly won her way back into number one status.
On the September 16th edition of SmackDown the Baddest Woman on the Planet was due to have a sit down interview with Kayla Braxton but she was interrupted by Morgan having only answered one question. The champion said that she is the only woman on earth to have defeated Rousey twice, but knows the only way to get respect is to do it for a third time.
With this, Morgan proposed that the pair make their upcoming match an Extreme Rules match. It was a proposition that Rousey quickly accepted. The two women will meet in the ring at Extreme Rules on October 8th.
