Following on from our exclusive report earlier in the week that SmackDown would not go live on Christmas Day, a new report reveals that the show WILL return to live broadcast for their New Year’s Day broadcast.
POST Wrestling reports that, “Multiple people informed POST Wrestling that they will return for a live show on Friday, January 1, 2021.”
Our earlier report revealed how, with Christmas Day clashing with SmackDown Friday, WWE had conceded the live aspect of their show in order to give talents time with their respective families. The show, however, is scheduled to air on the 25th of December thus will be recorded ahead of time.
While WWE has gone live in the past on Christmas Day – back in 2017 – and even invited Superstars to bring their families along to celebrate the day WWE-style. This year, the show will be pre-recorded ahead of airing.
There is no confirmation on a plan yet for exactly when the show will be recorded, but we’re told it’s likely to be either the week before, which would be on the same day as SmackDown airs live on the 18th, or some time in between then and Christmas Day.
