SmackDown Tag Team Title Match Set For WWE Day 1

Paul Heyman and The Bloodline

A huge SmackDown Tag Team Title match has been announced for WWE Day 1 in Atlanta on January 1st.

On the December 3rd episode of SmackDown the rivalry between The Usos and The New Day finally came to a head. On the show, Xavier Woods was due to take on Jey Uso in singles action, but he didn’t arrive alone as he was joined by a returning Kofi Kingston.

The former WWE Champion had been out of action since being taken out by Reigns and The Usos in November. The feud also saw The Bloodline destroy Woods’ King of the Ring crown, much to the anguish of the King of WWE.

WWE Champion Big E even got dragged into the rivalry heading into his clash with Roman Reigns at Survivor Series. The actions of The Usos and Reigns on SmackDown made things personal for the New Day star, but he was unable to overcome Reigns in a hugely physical contest.

Back on SmackDown, Woods and Jey Uso enjoyed a very even match until Jimmy Uso interfered causing the disqualification. However, Kingston launched himself at Jimmy sparking a wild brawl at ringside.

Once the dust had settled, Woods and Kingston spoke to Kayla Braxton backstage confirming that the title match had been made for Day 1.

Also on SmackDown it was confirmed that Reigns will defend his Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar at Day 1 in a huge rematch from Crown Jewel.

Lesnar returned to SmackDown, convincing number one contender Sami Zayn to have his championship match with Reigns in the main event, with the winner facing him on January 1st.

Before the main event got underway, Zayn tried to talk to Lesnar who destroyed him with a series of Suplexes and F-5’s. This left the path clear for Reigns to come to the ring and dispatch the former Intercontinental Champion with a Spear, with the referee quickly stopping the match with Zayn locked in the guillotine.
