SmackDown Star Shotzi Reacts To Athena’s Surprise AEW Debut

Athena Shotzi Ember Moon

SmackDown’s Shotzi took to social media in support of Athena after her AEW debut at Double or Nothing.

At AEW Double or Nothing Jade Cargill defeated Anna Jay to retain her TBS Championship. However, her victory was far from straightforward.

Despite holding a clear power advantage, Cargill was unable to make quick work of her rival as she had hoped. In response, there were shenanigans galore as seemingly half the AEW locker room came to get involved. First up were the Baddies who were on the receiving end of a double-DDT by Jay. With the pair out of action, Mark Sterling hobbled to the ring, crutch in hand, distracting the referee, throwing it into the ring.

Although the plan didn’t quite work out, as Jay intercepted the weapon and nailed Cargill for a near-fall. The end of the match came after former WWE star Malcom Bivens, better known as Stokely Hathaway made his AEW debut coming to ringside. His presence was enough of a distraction for Cargill to grab the win.

As everyone posed in the ring, Athena made her shocking debut arriving on the scene to confront the undefeated champion to a huge ovation.

One star who was excited to see this long-awaited AEW debut was SmackDown’s Shotzi, who took to social media to praise her friend and former tag team partner.

“AINT NO WOMAN LIKE THE ONE I GOT! @AthenaPalmer_FG!!!!! Congratulations tuhtuhpuh!”

During Athena’s time in NXT as Ember Moon, she and Shotzi won the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships from Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez on the same day the titles were introduced. They reigned for 55 days before losing the titles to Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell. The two continued to team together until Shotzi was called up to SmackDown to team with Tegan Nox, who was later released from WWE.

Ember Moon remained in NXT until her release from WWE on November 4th, 2021.

Elsewhere on AEW Double or Nothing, CM Punk became the new AEW Champion when he defeated Adam Page in the main event. After the match, he gave a heartfelt address to the AEW crowd, paying tribute to his wife AJ Lee and making it known that he earned his championship.
