AEW Collision is set to undergo a schedule shift, with reports indicating that taping on Thursday nights, rather than airing live on Saturday, will continue.
This change, noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, was highlighted by Dave Meltzer, who explained that AEW’s decision is largely driven by convenience for talent and crew.
I expect more Thursday Collision tapings going forward.
Meltzer reported. He pointed out that many wrestlers find it easier to stay on the road for a second day after Dynamite, rather than leaving and returning for a Saturday event.
The main talent likes it because if they are on the road on Wednesday, it’s far easier to stay for a second day of taping rather than either stay on the road two days and come back Friday night or Saturday, or go home on Thursday and come back Friday night or Saturday morning.
However, the decision to pre-record episodes rather than broadcast live has impacted ratings slightly, although the drop is considered manageable.
It does hurt the rating somewhat not going live. This is actually the first year with SmackDown and Collision where I’ve seen a difference, not huge, but noticeable, between ratings of taped and live shows.
Meltzer noted. Despite this impact, the company appears committed to prioritising the travel demands and well-being of its talent.
From an AEW perspective the difference isn’t enough to where the plan is to try and go live every week and sacrificing the travel load and the goodwill of the talent.
