Steve Austin nearly had 2 matches in 2022.
Austin returned to the ring after a 19 year hiatus at WrestleMania 38 in his home state of Texas. The Hall of Famer would defeat Kevin Owens in the main event of night 1 of the event in a No Holds Barred match.
Steve Austin Is Being Discussed To Wrestle Again At WrestleMania 39
Many welcome the return of Stone Cold to the ring, while also wondering if there would be another match or if the return was a one off.
As reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE had hoped to get The Texas Rattlesnake in the ring once again at SummerSlam 2022, with the opponent for Austin undetermined.
WWE’s latest attempt to get Steve Austin to have one more match would see Stone Cols compete at WrestleMania 39. This time an opponent has been officially pitched, with the hope being that Austin would face off against Brock Lesnar for the first time ever, being marketed as a dream match between the 2 former WWE Champions.
According to the report, Lesnar currently has no major first time opponent for the Los Angeles show in April that would be as big as Stone Cold. This is contrary to Roman Reigns, who potentially has multiple challengers for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship that the Tribal Chief has not faced off against before.
While this would be a first time ever match, this is not the first time that The Rattlesnake and The Beast have shared a ring at WrestleMania. Austin would be the special guest referee for the first time ever clash between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg at WrestleMania 20 back in 2004. The match was heavily booed by the crowd in attendance, and would see Austin deliver a Stunner to Lesnar after the match was won by Goldberg.
If the dream match were to take place, it is highly possible that Austin vs. Lesnar could headline one of the nights of WrestleMania 39. While many fans would love to see Stone Cold Steve Austin headline WrestleMania for the second year in a row, it could be seen as a “vote of no confidence” in the other top stars of the company.
