Bret Hart has heaped praise on a current WWE Superstar and former champion, hailing them as a “pioneer.”
On the June 10th edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Ronda Rousey cut a promo aimed at her new number one contender, Natalya. The week before, the former SmackDown Women’s Champion won a six-pack challenge to earn a shot at current champion Rousey.
During the promo, the former UFC star took aim at her rival, mocking her for ripping off the Sharpshooter from her uncle Bret Hart. However, those words would quickly come back to haunt her.
After Rousey made short work of Shotzi, she was attacked by Natalya who locked in her Sharpshooter and simply refused to let go.
Speaking in a new interview with Sportskeeda, Bret Hart commented Natalya’s WWE run, heaping praise on the star.
“She’s a pioneer, breaking new ground every day,”
Hart also joked that you’d have to “ask the writers” why her Sharpshooter doesn’t always seem as effective as his, attack on Rousey aside.
During the conversation, the WWE Hall of Famer was also asked about AEW honouring his brother Owen, with their recent Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
At Double or Nothing, Adam Cole was crowned men’s champion, and Bret Hart claimed victory in the women’s bracket. The pair were presented with a trophy and commemorative title belts by Owen Hart’s widow Martha.
“I’m happy to see Owen remembered in any way. It was very nice.”
While Natalya’s Sharpshooter might not always have been as devastating as her uncle’s, it appears to have made an impact on Rousey. After the attack, Rousey was show backstage being tended to by medics. This was followed by WWE announcing that the SmackDown Women’s Champion had sustained a “serious injury.”
