Shelton Benjamin Wants To Achieve One Goal In AEW Before Retirement

Shelton Benjamin and MVP make their entrance on AEW Dynamite

AEW star Shelton Benjamin isn’t done chasing gold just yet. After 25 years in the ring and multiple championships to his name, the veteran wrestler says there’s still one goal he’s determined to accomplish: winning a world title in a major promotion.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Benjamin, currently part of the Hurt Syndicate alongside Bobby Lashley and MVP, opened up about his ambitions and why he’s not ready to slow down.

“I’m going to just say yes. I definitely still want a world title,”

Benjamin said when asked if he believes he could capture the AEW World Championship.

“If you watch my performances, I’m not performing like a guy who wants to just retire and ride off into the sunset.”

Benjamin has held a variety of championships across WWE and AEW, including the Intercontinental, United States, and World Tag Team titles. However, a major world championship has eluded him throughout his storied career.

“While I definitely want to help elevate other talent, because that’s a big part of why we’re here, I still have goals,” he added. “Being a World Champion in a prominent company is definitely on top of that list.”

He did acknowledge holding a world title in Puerto Rico’s WWC promotion but admitted that fans may not view it on the same level as titles in AEW or WWE.

“Now, I have been World Champion for Puerto Rico, WWC, but I don’t know if we want to count that one. It counts? Ok,” he laughed.

With Benjamin continuing to deliver high-level performances in AEW, his pursuit of a world title may still be within reach. If Benjamin were to win the company’s top prize, he would be the oldest wrestler to do so at 49 years old, with Chris Jericho currently holding the record for the oldest star to hold the title, having captured it at 48 years old in 2019.

Which WWE Hall Of Famer Did Shelton Benjamin Say Was The “Unsung Hero” Behind Team Angle’s Success?

Shelton Benjamin spoke about how he believes Arn Anderson was the brains behind the success of the Team Angle faction in WWE. Benjamin credited Anderson with helping him and “World’s Greatest Tag Team” partner Charlie Haas by taking them into the ring and coaching them, and helping them come up with new tag team manoeuvres.
