WWE star and Liverpool fan Sheamus has reacted to Man City pipping his beloved Reds at the post to become Premier League champions once again.
The final day of the English Premier League season saw Liverpool and Manchester City with everything to play for as both sides could still be crowned champions. For Liverpool, this was an opportunity to complete a domestic treble after already capturing the Carabao and FA Cups earlier in the season.
For City, a chance to win a fourth Premier League crown in five years would help soften the blow of failing to capture the one prize that has alluded them, the Champions League.
Nerves were clearly showing as Liverpool conceded early in their game against Wolves with City also falling behind to Aston Villa. Liverpool managed to equalise in their match while City went two behind, meaning a Liverpool goal would have taken the title back to Anfield.
However, Ilkay Gundogan made an immediate impact from the bench for Man City as he scored two out of three in a five-minute comeback that saw City take the lead and the Premier League crown once again.
Former WWE Champion Sheamus was sporting in defeat on social media following his team missing out on just a second Premier League championship in 32 years and has his eyes firmly on Liverpool’s Champions League final against Real Madrid:
“What a bleedn season. Brilliant! Congrats to City but so proud of the reds. Now off to Paris for the big one. #YNWA.”
