Shayna Baszler Calls Out UFC Champion For Recent Controversial Comments

Shayna Baszler

WWE Superstar and former MMA fighter Shayna Baszler has hit out at comments made by Julianna Pena after Pena defeated Amanda Nunes for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title.

Baszler had a stellar career in MMA before swapping the octagon for the squared circle as she pursued a career in pro wrestling. With an MMA career record of 15 wins and 11 losses, Baszler competed for several different promotions in that realm before debuting for UFC as part of The Ultimate Fighter reality series.

Baszler fought for Ronda Rousey on Team Rousey on that series alongside fellow Four Horsewoman Jessamyn Duke while the fourth member of their ensemble, Marina Shafir was one of Rousey’s coaches for that season. During that season Shayna Baszler fought and lost to Julianna Pena in the second episode of that season.

Pena competed at UFC 269 against Amanda Nunes for the UFC Bantamweight Championship. In what many commentators are calling the greatest upset in UFC history Pena submitted Nunes for only the second time in her professional career.

However, comments Julianna Pena made after the fight have not gone down well in some quarters. During her post-fight interview, Pena stated that she regards herself as the first “mom” champion in UFC history despite Amanda Nunes having a daughter herself. Pena added “All respect to her, but I gave birth to my daughter.”

Shayna Baszler then took to social media to issue a response to Pena’s dubious comments, writing:

“Such a wonderful person to be a role model as champion *sarcasm*”

Shayna Baszler most recently competed on the 3rd of December edition of SmackDown where the former 2-time NXT Women’s Champion lost to Sasha Banks.
