Shayna Baszler has admitted she misses the “gritty energy” of NXT but felt like she had to move on from the black and gold brand.
Speaking to Kayla Braxton on her IGTV series ‘The Braxton Beat’, the former NXT Women’s Champion was asked if she missed competing for the black and gold brand despite her current focus on RAW.
Baszler responded that specifically misses the aura and “gritty energy” surrounding her original brand:
“When you watch Monday, Wednesday, Fridays, there’s a certain aura, energy, that each show kind of specifically has on its own. There is this kind of gritty energy that NXT has, you know, and it is something that I miss.”
Baszler went on to explain that she had to move on from the show, however, to keep herself fresh – a bittersweet moment she compared to graduating from high school:
“But I ruled that division and so it was time to move on. If you want to keep fresh, you gotta do stuff like that, even if it seems like it sucks. It’s like graduating high school. It sucked kind of, but you have to do it.”
Shayna Baszler found immense success whilst competing on NXT between 2017 and 2020, reaching the finals of the first-ever Mae Young Classic and becoming the first person to win the NXT Women’s Championship twice. Since moving to RAW following her debut in this year’s women’s Royal Rumble, Baszler has had varying degrees of success – most recently capturing the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with Nia Jax.
Baszler is set to represent Team RAW alongside her tag partner Nia Jax, Lana, Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce against Team SmackDown at Survivor Series this Sunday.
