Shawn Michaels hasn’t wrestled since November 2018 when he teamed with Triple H to take on The Undertaker and Kane at WWE Crown Jewel. The match was widely panned by fans and critics, and even Michaels himself has admitted that it shouldn’t have taken place.
Prior to that Michaels had been out of the ring for eight years after being retired by The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26.
Shawn Michaels Offered Chance To Return
However, one man who has experience in bringing retired legends back to the ring is Kevin Owens. At WrestleMania 38, KO squared off against Stone Cold Steve Austin who was competing for the first time 19 years having previously claimed that he was content being retired.
Speaking during an appearance on Kevin Raphael’s podcast, Owens revealed that following the success of that match he enquired about possibly facing Shawn Michaels. Owens said that after wrestling Austin he felt nothing was impossible. When Owens briefly returned to NXT he spoke with Michaels about a match, saying that it would mean he faced his two favourite wresters of all time.
In addition Fightful Select noted that they had learned that Michaels admitted he had thought about a comeback, especially after seeing Austin in action. Although he said he thinks he should remain retired.
This isn’t the first time that someone has tried to entice Shawn Michaels back into the ring, with AJ Styles previously trying to set up a dream match of his own.
With regard to the match at Crown Jewel in 2018, it is believed that Michaels earned around $3 million, in what was the biggest single pay-day of his career.
Following Steve Austin’s impressive performance at WrestleMania it has been reported that WWE have since offered the star to come back yet again. There has been no word on whether Austin has taken up the offer, but he has been training hard in recent weeks. However the man himself said on social media that this was simply because he was tired of “looking like sh*t.”
