Shawn Michaels has been the Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative for NXT since September 2022. In his role, he is responsible for the creative decisions behind NXT on-screen and off-screen, which were once responsibilities held by his close friend Triple H.
Since Triple H moved up the WWE corporate ladder, Shawn Michaels has been finding his feet in the new role. He recently discussed what his working relationship with Triple H is like in 2022.
Shawn Michaels Discusses Working Relationship With Triple H
In a recent interview on the Culture State podcast with Dennis Cox & Chris Lea, Shawn Michaels commented on how his working relationship functions with Triple H.
“From a weekly television standpoint, what we do on ‘NXT’ is more or less my ballpark. Hunter always checks in and knows who the people are. He obviously watches the show, he sees the people that appear to have promise in his sight and in ours as well.”
“I think he takes a mental note of who he sees and what he sees in them, and I’m sure he makes his crew aware of it as well. And then whenever those times come when they feel like they’re ready for a call-up or they see a need that they might have, that’s when they would give us a call.”
Triple H now serves as WWE’s Chief Content Officer, a role he was promoted to after the retirement of Vince McMahon. He is responsible for overseeing the company’s creative writing, talent relations, live events, and talent development, among other departments. Needless to say, he is kept busy.
Of course, Shawn Michaels and Triple H have plenty of experience working together, having spent decades with one another inside the squared circle. With both now in retirement, they have traded taking bumps for helping ensure the creative success of WWE on television.
Shawn Michaels recently commented on his retirement, stating that he has “had that final match,” meaning that he likely won’t return to the ring again.
