NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal finally wants his one-on-one match with Paul Wight after years of the match being teased in Wight’s former life as The Big Show in WWE.
The two men are both giants in their fields both literally and figuratively. Shaq has made numerous appearances in the wrestling realm over the years including presenting the WCW World Title to Hulk Hogan after he defeated Ric Flair at 1994’s Bash At The Beach.
In 2016 Shaquille O’Neal finally came face to face with Wight in the ring during the André The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32. With the two behemoths wrapping their giant hands around each other’s throats, the rest of the participants in the match took the opportunity to team up and knock both men out of the ring, eliminating them.
Shaq returned to the ring in March 2021 for All Elite Wrestling. He teamed with the impressive Jade Cargill in her AEW debut to defeat Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet. During the match, Cody launched himself onto Shaq and drove the giant star through tables on the floor.
Speaking to the Pop Culture, O’Neal commented on crashing through the tables:
“I’m made of steel. There’ll be no broken bones [and] it was actually fun.”
Shaq then followed up with comments on AEW’s Paul Wight, saying he’s going to get to work in the summer in preparation for Wight:
The comments Shaq was referring to were made when Paul Wight was speaking to the Miami Herald, Wight said referring to a match with O’Neal:
“I hope so at some point. It’s been the biggest tease ever between Shaq vs. me for how many years. At some point, you either never do it because you can’t live up to the tease or we need to hurry up and do it before it gets to be yesterday’s news.”
