Shaquille O’Neal is ready to face Cody Rhodes in AEW. After weeks of build-up that began when Jade Cargill debuted in AEW, telling Cody that she represented ‘Shaq,’ it looks like a match is happening.
Cody challenged O’Neal and Jade Cargill on Dynamite to a tag-team match against himself and Red Velvet. Red Velvet has been an ally to Cody’s wife Brandi in recent weeks. She has stepped in for the pregnant Brandi and got herself in a brawl with Cargill in recent weeks.
Shaq gave his response to that challenge on Inside The NBA on TNT. When asked about the challenge by his co-hosts, the NBA legend said:
“I’ll tell you what, Cupcake Cody Rhodes. I’m gonna beat you like I almost beat Chuck [Charles Barkley]. Remember when I almost gave Chuck the left and he flinched? That’s how I’m gonna beat you. Name the place. I’m gonna wrestle him. It’s done. I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna wrestle Cody Rhodes. Me and Jade [Cargill] are gonna wrestle Cody and Red Pumpkin Pie [Red Velvet]”
Shaquille O’Neal had previously said in a message while presenting the AEW Awards that he was ready to face Cody “in March.” No word on where this match will take place is available at this time. However, AEW’s Revolution pay-per-view is due to take place on Sunday, the 7th of March.
This is not Shaq’s first foray into professional wrestling. He competed in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32 in 2016. Shaq was able to eliminate Damien Sandow before being eliminated himself by most of the other participants. Over the years Shaq has also made appearances in WCW and TNA.
