Shane McMahon only appeared once for WWE in 2022 but it seems he was paid very good money to do so.
After being absent since WrestleMania 37, McMahon made a surprise appearance in the 2022 men’s Royal Rumble Match. The star entered the match at number 28 and made it to the final three before being eliminated by eventual winner Brock Lesnar. In total, McMahon was in the ring for five minutes and 38 seconds.
However, it emerged after the event that McMahon’s appearance had not gone down well backstage. It was noted that he had also got involved in producing the match and his overall conduct rubbed a number of people the wrong way, including Vince McMahon. As a result, plans for more matches were scrapped and he was quietly let go by the company in February.
Shane McMahon Nets Huge Sum For Royal Rumble Appearance
In a new 8-K filling it has been revealed that Shane McMahon was “retained as an independent contractor performer” by the company and was paid a cool $828,000 “in connection with such services.”
The figure is less than McMahon was paid in 2021, although that year he made multiple on-screen appearances as well as taking on Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 37.
The filing also publicly acknowledged why former Board members Ignace Lahoud and Man Jit Singh resigned on January 6th. As suspected, the pair left their positions as a direct result of Vince McMahon returning to the Board.
“While Messrs. Lahoud and Singh agreed with the Board’s decision to explore the Company’s strategic alternatives, they did not agree with Mr. McMahon’s return at this time.”
Vince McMahon is also facing a class action lawsuit in relation to his comeback. The report states that a WWE shareholder is suing McMahon for the way which he forced his way back onto the Board.
