Several Teams Revealed For Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic

The first four teams were announced on NXT TV for the 2021 NXT Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

The following tag teams were announced during the January 13th edition of NXT:

Team Ninja (Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter) – Kacy hasn’t had a win on NXT since her victory over Xia Li back in October 2020 prior to Xia’s recent aggressive transformation. This is the same story for Kayden, who herself scored her last victory over Xia Li back in September 2020. Team Ninja have fought together five times, losing three times and winning two.

Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm – Off the back of a strong finish to her 2020 campaign where she just fell short to Rhea Ripley in a Steel Cage match, Mercedes is teaming up with one of NXT’s hottest young stars. Toni returned to NXT TV in October and has only lost once, falling to Candice LeRae in November. This pairing are ready to go with Martinez tweeting:

“We are COOL….We are CONFIDENT….We are BADASS….STORMING through this women’s #DustyClassic with some RICAN SWAG!“

Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart – Much like Toni, Ember Moon returned to NXT TV in October 2020, however she has now lost four out of sevem matches she’s been in. Shotzi (who fell short to Candice LeRae on NXT last night) is a spirited fighter who confidently tackles any challenge in front of her – highlighted by her grit showcased during the Team Shotzi vs Team LeRae WarGames match in December.

The Way (Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell) – The Way have been dominant in recent weeks and with Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory ever-present, there’s no telling how far this team can go in the Dusty Classic. LeRae has now amassed over 150 matches during her tenure in NXT, she’s hoping that veteran instinct can rub off on Indi who debuted on NXT TV just over a year ago.

The first-ever women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will kick off on the January 20th edition of NXT with Storm and Martinez vs. Catanzaro and Carter billed as the first match to take place. The full brackets and more details will also be revealed soon by NXT.
