Karrion Kross finally debuted on the WWE main roster on July 19th appearing on Monday Night RAW, but not everyone is pleased with how the debut was handled.
On the show, fans were shown a brief clip of Kross announcing that the NXT Champion would be debuting later that night. As promised, after a short vignette, Kross arrived on RAW without Scarlett by his side.
The man stood across the ring from Kross was Jeff Hardy. Despite the NXT Champion showing glimpses of his power in the early going, Hardy picked up the win in under two minutes. It was a result which was met with surprise by many fans online and it appears several within NXT shared that sentiment.
The loss was especially noteworthy as Kross was previously undefeated in singles action since joining WWE in February 2020. Since joining NXT Kross has defeated the likes of Finn Balor, Johnny Gargano and Keith Lee, while he also choked out Samoa Joe on a recent episode of the show.
According to a new report from Fightful Select, several NXT talents and staff expressed their “shock and frustration” at how the debut was handled. The frustration stemming from how the likes of Finn Balor, Johnny Gargano and Santos Escobar had worked hard to establish Kross as a dominant force. One talent reportedly went as far to say that it felt as though a message was being sent.
“The general mood of those that we spoke to was a “not mad, disappointed” vibe, as they felt this represented how the NXT brand was viewed by higher ups as a whole.”
The report closes by noting that Kross appeared to be in good spirits after the match, despite the uncomfortable position he was put in.
Karrion Kross signed with WWE in February 2020 and by August he was already holding the richest prize in NXT. However, it was a moment that was more than a little bittersweet. During his triumph over Keith Lee, Kross separated his shoulder which meant he had to relinquish the gold just a handful of days after winning it.
After returning to action, Kross set about regaining the title that he never lost. Karrion Kross later defeated Finn Balor at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver to become a two-time champion.
