Seth Rollins will soon be making his first official title defense of the WWE United States Championship.
On October 17, 2022, on WWE Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins will be squaring off against Matt Riddle in his first official defense of the WWE United States Championship. World Wrestling Entertainment made the announcement on this past Friday’s edition of Smackdown.
Earlier this week on Raw, Seth Rollins would take advantage of a battered Bobby Lashley, who was thrashed by a returning Brock Lesnar, and would place himself as the new U.S. Champion.
Rollins’ championship victory would come just two days after he suffered defeat to Matt Riddle in a controversial Fight Pit Match at WWE’s Extreme Rules Premium Live Event. Officially, the feud between the two started a few weeks prior to SummerSlam, with Rollins launching several attacks on Riddle to kick things off. A match was originally scheduled between the two for SummerSlam, however, Riddle’s storyline injuries, from Rollins’ attacks, would keep him out of action.
Eventually, the bout between the two was re-scheduled for Clash at the Castle, and afterwards, the rivalry only escalated after things would get more personal, with both Rollins and Riddle using each others’ families as a weapon in promos, particularly with Rollins pointing out Riddle’s real-life problems. At Clash, Rollins would win the battle over Riddle.
However, things didn’t end there, with Riddle once again challenging Rollins to a match, which would become official at Extreme Rules with the Fight Pit stipulation. Also, Daniel Cormier was made the special guest referee for the match. Eventually, Riddle would win in controversial fashion over Rollins, forcing him to tap out while in a Triangle Choke.
