WWE presented its 40th Saturday Night’s Main Event special less than 24 hours ago. The big event brought unfortunate circumstances for Seth Rollins, but things are seemingly not as bad as indicated earlier. Sources are now revealing updates on Rollins, Gunther, and the road to SummerSlam.
The Visionary locked up in one-on-one action with LA Knight for the first time ever at WWE SNME XL. The unfortunate finish came after Rollins seemed to tweak his knee, pausing the match as the doctor came to tend to him. Knight paced around as the doctor spoke with Paul Heyman and referee Jessika Carr, then the match restarted with LA immediately nailing a BFT for the pin to win shortly before the 12-minute mark. Sources later reported that Rollins was legitimately injured, but details were sparse.
The Megastar was originally scheduled to lose to Rollins at Saturday Night’s Main Event, according to Ringside News. There have been various rumors on plans for Rollins vs. Knight, but the heel was planned to go over until the injury occurred. Rollins called an audible in the ring, then the decision was made on-the-fly to have Rollins take the loss, which led to his quick limp into Knight’s finisher.
Multiple sources have reiterated that Rollins was legitimately injured, and that was not a part of some storyline. The first big sign came at SNME as it was confirmed that medical personnel were not planning for what went down ahead of time. As soon as Rollins returned to the backstage area of State Farm Arena in Atlanta, word made the rounds that the 39-year-old was legitimately hurt.
Update On Seth Rollins vs. Gunther WWE SummerSlam Rumors
Seth Rollins won the Men’s Money In the Bank briefcase 37 days ago, and since then there have been just saw cash-in teasers from the veteran Superstar. Rollins’ loss to LA Knight took place right before the WWE SNME XL main event, which saw World Heavyweight Champion Gunther retain over Bill Goldberg in the 2018 Hall of Famer’s retirement match.
After the recent RAW angle with Gunther and Rollins, chatter picked up on a feud between The Ring General and The Architect. In response to rumors and speculation making the rounds, Ringside News reports that there were never plans for Rollins to cash-in the MITB briefcase during the main event in Atlanta last night.
WWE officials have reportedly decided on SummerSlam plans for Gunther, and Rollins obviously will not be involved. It remains to be seen what the Austrian grappler will be doing at the inaugural two-night SummerSlam, but the program is set to kick-off at any time, perhaps as soon as this week.
Multiple sources have reported that WWE had no plans for a Rollins cash-in at SNME before the injury occurred. The only change was the finish that saw Knight get the win over Rollins.
