Seth Rollins’ Return Potentially Delayed

Seth Rollins.

It had been expected that Seth Rollins would return to WWE on the New Years Day edition of Friday Night SmackDown, but it appears that plans may have changed.

The official WWE on FOX Twitter account released a promo shot last week promoting Rollins’ return, but this video has since been removed. While Rollins is no longer being advertised for the show.

Seth Rollins last appeared for WWE at Survivor Series on November 22nd, featuring in the Men’s Elimination Match for Team SmackDown. The Messiah was the first man eliminated from the match, after dropping to his knees before taking a Brogue Kick from Sheamus and proclaiming that he had sacrificed himself for “The greater good.”

In reality this allowed Rollins to take time off to be by the side of partner Becky Lynch for the birth of their first child, Roux, in December.

Meanwhile WWE.com have announced that Universal Champion Roman Reigns has made a “Special request of WWE management” ahead of this week’s show. There is no word on the details around that request, or what it may entail. Last week Reigns retained the Universal Title against Kevin Owens in a Cage Match.

The champion will be joined on the show by a tag team match between Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair and Bayley & Carmella. Both teams battled Charlotte & Asuka for the Women’s Tag Team Championships on last week’s SmackDown in a triple threat elimination match, where Bayley & Carmella were eliminated first. But still made sure to help cost Banks and Belair the match.

In addition, newly crowned WWE Intercontinental Champion Big E will take on Baron Corbin in a non title match.
