Seth Rollins has recalled the time an incensed Randy Orton was threatening to take matters into his own hands after a backstage assault by Dean Ambrose.
In 2012 a new group burst onto the scene in WWE as Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose debuted as The Shield. The group took their reign of terror out on anyone in their path and unfortunately for Randy Orton, that included him on occasion.
Seth Rollins was speaking to Stone Cold Steve Austin on his Broken Skull Sessions when he discussed Orton getting his temperature raised to boiling point by a backstage attack that saw Ambrose – better known today as AEW’s Jon Moxley – going for The Viper’s knees:
“I jump up on Randy, who’s a big dude. I get on his back and before he has any time to think, Ambrose is there with the chop block. It’s a nice chop block, it’s as safe as they come, but you feel somebody come low when you’ve got somebody on your head and it’s panic time. We come back to Gorilla and Randy’s hot. He’s hot, he’s yelling, he’s basically saying he’s gonna put a hit out on Ambrose. I remember he leaves Gorilla and we’re all just like [laughing]. Hunter [Triple H]’s like, ‘Don’t worry about it.’”
Rollins commented that The Shield never planned out their swarming attacks and that as relative newcomers, Orton was not entirely sure what he was working with:
“We never plan these things out. There was no rehearsal. It’s like, ‘Okay, here they come.’ So we never knew how we were gonna hit him. Ambrose is one of the safest guys in the world, but Randy don’t know that at the time. I always went high, Ambrose usually went low. I was a little bit faster so I would get there first.”
