Seth Rollins Details Injury & Gives Timeline For WWE Return

Seth Rollins remains optimistic that he will be recovered in time for WrestleMania.

January 15th was a concerning day for Rollins and WWE fans as the World Heavyweight Champion looked to be injured in his latest title defence against Jinder Mahal. As the week progressed, it was announced that Rollins would be addressing his status as World Champion on the January 22nd episode of WWE Raw, which many believed to be another title vacation in very similar circumstances to what took place in 2015.

Seth Rollins would begin his update on the next episode of Raw before being interrupted by Gunther. As the Intercontinental Champion found the injury update to be somewhat amusing, Rollins responded by saying that he should not have been interrupted and that he will defy doctor’s orders to walk into WrestleMania 40 the World Champion, something he has yet to do in his career.

Rollins would speak with Daniel Cormier on ESPN MMA to discuss what happened in his match with Jinder Mahal and the next steps. In regards to the knee injury, The Visionary confirmed that it was a moonsault that caused the issue:

“It happened in the match last Monday. I was wrestling Jinder Mahal in a move I do all the time, the moonsault. I landed a bit short and basically hyper-extended my knee. In the process it was kind of twisting a little bit and I felt it go in a direction that it wasn’t supposed to. I didn’t feel the pop as much as the stretch but I knew something was wrong.

I’ve had knee injuries in the past. Obviously, take a second, take stock, we are on live TV and got to finish the match. We finished the match and then the race was on to get the MRI to figure out what the exact severity of the injury was going to be and what the timetable was like for a return.

Seth Rollins continued, stating that he is relieved that he will not be sidelined for most of 2024 with the injury. In regards to an in-ring return, the World Heavyweight Champion is looking at around a month to recover and doesn’t want the WrestleMania match to be his first match back:

“Rehab is going to be a pain. Dodged a bullet the ACL is intact so anybody who knows anything about ligaments in the knee, the ACL’s the big one, that one is good. The MCL will heal with time, we’ll get in there and do some stuff, check out the PRP, and do some rehab. I’m hoping to be back at full strength in around a month, around a month is like kind of my timeline. And we’ll see what happens.

We’re gonna take it day-to-day, I’d like to be back in a month. I don’t wanna walk into WrestleMania & that be my first match in 2 or 3 months, whatever it is, that’s not gonna be good for me. I want to get out there and test the wheel out and make sure we are in a good place. We will see how it goes, we are taking it day by day but I am happy that it wasn’t something that was going to put me on the shelf for 6 to 9 months. ”
