Seth Rollins has opened up about if and when fans might get to see The Shield come back together one more time.
On November 18th 2012 at Survivor Series, WWE fans got a glimpse of The Shield for the first time. On the night, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose (Jon Moxley) interfered in the Triple Threat Match between CM Punk, John Cena and Ryback. Their appearance ensured that Punk retained the WWE Championship.
At first he trio remained aligned with Punk before heading out on their own. After destroying the best that WWE had to offer, the Hounds of Justice eventually fell apart when Rollins attacked his partners before siding with Triple H and The Authority in June 2014.
Although there have been occasional reunions, the group haven’t appeared together for an extended period since the initial breakup. While a reunion seems increasingly more unlikely with Jon Moxley signed to AEW.
However, Rollins got fans talking at the Royal Rumble when he donned his famous all black gear one more time to face Roman Reigns.
Speaking in a new interview with Digital Spy, the former World Champion discussed the move, but refused to real who came up with the idea.
“I actually can’t tell you whose idea was,” he said. “It was a collaborative idea, I will tell you that much. But I can’t divulge that, that’s for a documentary somewhere down the line.”
When asked about the potential for a full reunion, Rollins admitted that fans likely won’t see the three men team in the ring again.
“I can say that, and maybe this might come back to bite me at some point, but I just don’t think you’re ever going to see the three of us team up ever again,” Rollins said.
“It wouldn’t look the way you want it to look. It wouldn’t be like the old days in The Shield, it would be a different animal. I think we’re all just too big stars with too big personalities at this point.
“We needed each other back then and now none of us need the other one,” he continued. “We’re at a point where we’re all standalone stars on a different level. So to have to kind of minimize that to fit into each other’s moulds, I just don’t see it ever happening again. I think it would look a whole lot different than the next time you see us together.”
He added that the next time that fans will get to see the trio together is when they’re inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
“The next time you see us together it’s going to be when we’re inducted into the Hall of Fame,” he added. “That’s going to be it.”
Seth Rollins is currently scheduled to meet Riddle at SummerSlam after a lengthy battle with Cody Rhodes earlier in the year. Meanwhile, Roman Reigns will defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar at the same event in a Last Man Standing Match.
Outside of WWE, the former Dean Ambrose, Jon Moxley, is the Interim AEW World Champion.
