With AEW Rampage being pre-taped this week, the semifinals for the Grand Slam Tournament of Champions have already been set!
Needless to say, spoilers ahead for the 9 September broadcast of Rampage.
Tony Khan’s announcement of the Grand Slam Tournament of Champions was met with considerable acclaim, considering the star power of the bracket. Already, Bryan Danielson has advanced to the next round, having defeated ‘Hangman’ Adam Page on the latest Dynamite. He’ll next face Chris Jericho.
Per PWInsider, Sammy Guevara moved onto the next round by defeating old rival Darby Allin. ‘The Spanish God’ is now scheduled to face Jon Moxley in the semifinals, which will take place on 14 September in Albany, New York.
The victors of Danielson vs. Jericho, and Guevara vs. Moxley will then meet on 21 September during the Grand Slam broadcast of Dynamite. Whoever wins that clash will lift the vacant AEW World Championship, which was left without a holder following CM Punk’s injury.
This marks the first time in AEW’s history that the World Championship has been vacant in its three-year history. There was, however, an interim champion, that being Jon Moxley, who became an official champion the week before All Out when he defeated CM Punk. Other former champions include Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, and Adam Page.
