Sean Waltman Reveals How A WWE Appearance Got Him Sued

WWE Hall of Famer Sean Waltman, better known as X-Pac, recently shared an interesting anecdote about a time he was sued by WCW.

During an interview with Insight host Chris Van Vliet. Sean Waltman mentioned that when he returned to WWE in 1998, he made a promo where he claimed that his former NWO colleagues, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, would have joined him if they weren’t “being held hostage by WCW.” This statement resulted in Waltman being sued and deposed by WCW’s attorneys.

During the deposition, WCW’s lawyer scrutinised the promo, searching for any traps to use against Waltman. When asked why he made the statement, Waltman candidly replied that he had discussed it with Kevin Nash, who suggested it would be a good idea.

So I’m sitting in the deposition … [the lawyer for WCW] goes, ‘Why did you say Kevin Nash and Scott Hall would be right there with you if they weren’t being held hostage by WCW?’ I said, ‘Well I was talking to Kev the night before and he told me it would be a good idea if I said that.

This response seemed to agitate the opposing counsel, who asked about the meaning behind DX’s infamous catchphrase, “suck it.” Waltman bluntly replied:

What do you think it means?

Despite the legal troubles, Waltman expressed gratitude for his time in both the NWO and D-Generation X. He stated that he finds it difficult to choose which legacy he is prouder of, as both groups have had a significant impact. Waltman pointed out that NWO merchandise is still popular today,

You still see those [NWO shirts] everywhere, but then you go and look at someone like Derrick Lewis, who does the [crotch chop DX pose] after he’s knocking somebody out.

Also on this podcast appearance Waltman discussed the possibility of returning to the ring for a multi-man tag match, this comes after Waltman recently tore his bicep in a match with Joey Janela at a GCW event on March 31st.

Sean Waltman’s contributions to the wrestling industry have been recognised, as he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in consecutive years—first with DX in 2019 and then with the NWO in 2020.
