Sean Waltman On Bryan & Punk Going To AEW – “F*cking Game Changer”

Daniel Bryan CM Punk

Two-time WWE Hall Of Famer Sean Waltman has given his take on Daniel Bryan and CM Punk potentially heading to AEW, saying it’ll help the entire wrestling industry.

In the past several weeks former WWE Champions Daniel Bryan and CM Punk have been heavily linked with All Elite Wrestling. Fightful Select first reported that Punk was in talks with the company before reported that Bryan had possibly signed a deal with the upstart promotion.

Someone who knows something about jumping between wrestling companies is Sean Waltman. Waltman was the 1-2-3 Kid in the World Wrestling Federation before following his Kliq brothers Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to WCW to become part of the nWo. Waltman returned to the WWF on the night after WrestleMania 14, joining a revamped D-Generation X.

Speaking on his Pro Wrestling 4 Life podcast, the former WWF European Champion gave his take on Bryan and Punk possibly becoming All Elite.

Waltman stated:

“It’s exciting. It’s just good for everyone. It doesn’t hurt WWE, I don’t think. It definitely helps AEW. They already have some really good momentum as far as I’m concerned. It’s gonna be a f*cking game changer. The difference is one is just a publicly traded company that’s just f*cking monstrous. It’s huge, and I don’t think it’s going anywhere. That’s why I don’t think this necessarily hurts them. It just helps AEW, and it f*cking helps the industry.”

Waltman then discussed the opinion of some fans that having too many ex-WWE stars can hurt what AEW already has. Former WCW President Eric Bischoff made that point recently, noting that there’s only so much television time to go around.

For Waltman, it’s clear:

“If somebody is better than you, then maybe they deserve your spot. That’s how I’ve always felt. I helped people that were there to f*cking take my spot or take a bigger spot, like Jericho, for instance. Read his book. He’ll tell you. I’m all about people that f*cking deserve the spot through merit. There’s something to be said for tenure, but it can’t be the only thing. It’s, what the f*ck do you bring to the table right now?”

AEW’s Darby Allin poured petrol on the rumours of CM Punk joining AEW at Fight For The Fallen when he dropped a line about those that consider themselves “The Best In The World.”
