WWE is reportedly pursuing a major championship match for SummerSlam this year.
At Night of Champions, Dominik Mysterio was supposed to defend his Intercontinental Title against AJ Styles. However, a last-minute injury out of nowhere hampered the course of that feud. This week on RAW, The Judgment Day member was confronted by Styles. Mysterio produced a piece of paper declaring it to be the official medical document confirming said injury.

The Phenomenal One has been eyeing the Intercontinental Championship for a good few months now. Earlier, it was indicated that Finn Balor wanted to hold gold too, but given his most recent win as a two-time WWE Tag Team Champion, his accomplishment for the time being is checked off.
The Blockbuster Match Is Being Internally Discussed For WWE SummerSlam
Dominik Mysterio made waves in WWE after his heel turn, both in his overall gimmick transition to in-ring capabilities. The 28-year-old has gone up against notable names from the industry, including Seth Rollins, his father, Rey Mysterio, Sami Zayn, and Gunther among many more.
Injury claims cost him and AJ Styles a spot on the Night of Champions match card. Recently, Wrestle Votes cited that the scrapped bout is being considered for SummerSlam 2025.
“Don’t think the match takes place the next Saturday night, think it’s too soon. Plus, that card’s filling up and they’re presenting it as this PLE, this must-watch, which it will be, but it’s only two hours, about an hour and 27 minutes with commercial. So, I think that card is gonna be full enough. So, I’d expect that match to happen at SummerSlam and I think it’s gonna be great when it does happen. So, MetLife Stadium looks like the place for that match,”

The Phenomenal One faced Cody Rhodes at Backlash France last year for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Since earlier this year, Styles found himself butting heads with The Judgment Day on multiple occasions. The last time the wrestling veteran held gold in WWE was in 2021, where he was the RAW Tag Team Champion with Omos.
