Scrapped WrestleMania Plans For Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch was always set to be a part of WrestleMania 41, but as part of a different match.

Lynch made her return to WWE on night 2 of the show, revealed to be Lyra Valkyria’s mystery partner. Bayley was originally set to team with Valkyria but was taken out the previous night. Lynch’s return was a successful one as she and Valkyria defeated Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez to become the new Women’s Tag Team Champions. The next night on Raw, Lynch and Valkyria lost the titles back to Morgan and Rodriguez, leading to Lynch attacking her tag partner. According to a new report, Lynch’s return was set to take place much earlier in the year.

As reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, one pitch for Lynch’s Mania return was to have her team with Charlotte Flair to face the team of Asuka and IYO SKY. It was noted in the report that Flair and Lynch were set to reunite around the Royal Rumble, but plans changed.

Flair made her return at the Royal Rumble after being side-lined for more than a year with injury. Flair went on to win the Rumble match and unsuccessfully challenged Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. IYO SKY retained her Women’s World Championship against Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair in the opening match of night 2. Asuka has been out of action due to injury for early a year, last competing at Backlash in Lyon, France.
