After Kenny Omega stepped into IMPACT Wrestling and claimed the company’s top prize in April, Britt Baker now also wants to get in on the action.
Speaking on Vickie Guerrero’s Excuse Me! podcast, MPACT Wrestling Executive Vice President Scott D’Amore revealed that the AEW Women’s World Champion has enquired about a potential clash with her IMPACT counterpart, Deonna Purrazzo.
Discussing the working relationship between the two companies, D’Amore said that he gets tweeted about a showdown between Baker and Purrazzo constantly.
“That’s a great question and look, I get it tweeted out at me and everything all the time… All I can say is, from our perspective — look, I got cornered by Britt Baker down in Jacksonville a few weeks ago and she’s like, ‘When do I get Deonna?’ I said, “Hey, Britt oh, come on. We’ve always said we have an open-door policy and we’re open to doing it. you know the deal in wrestling sometimes there’s a lot of hurdles to jump through but I think the relationship with AEW has been fantastic.”
D’Amore continued, singing the praises of AEW President Tony Khan. The IMPACT executive praised Khan for his openness and transparency.
“I think that Tony Khan is a breath of fresh air in many ways in the wrestling industry and it’s just been great to deal with a person who is in a different company where there’s honesty and transparency and it’s like hey, let’s do that. You know why? Because that’s cool!’ We share our vision for a world like that and I love to see it because I mean whether it’s Nyla Rose or whether it’s some of the many other talents that you have there. Imagine if Nyla came in and hid the ring on Deonna and just laid her lying there and picked up the title, right?”
Britt Baker has reigned supreme over the AEW women’s division since vanquishing Hikaru Shida at Double or Nothing on May 30th.
Meanwhile, Purrazzo has reigned supreme on IMPACT since claiming her second Knockouts crown in November 2020.
It was revealed on a recent episode of IMPACT that Deonna Purrazzo will face a mystery opponent after she declared that there was no one left for her to beat. The Virtuosa saw off the challenge for Lady Frost, before it was announced by IMPACT legend Gail Kim that Purrazzo will face an opponent of her and D’Amore’s choosing.
Despite the speculation, it has since been reported that one woman Purrazzo will not be facing is the former Ruby Riott.
Away from IMPACT, in another inter-promotional match, Purrazzo will challenge for the AAA Reina de Reinas title at Triplemania XXIX.
