As rumours continue to circulate concerning the WWE status of Sasha Banks, a new report has claimed that not only has the star been released, but that it happened some time ago.

Sasha Banks has been absent from WWE since she and Naomi walked out of an episode of WWE Raw, reportedly handing their Tag Team Championship belts to John John Laurinaitis. Since then, there has been considerable uncertainty concerning the status of the 6-time Women’s Champion.

On June 16th, Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc. reported that The Boss was released from her WWE contract, while later updates suggested that Banks had a legal team working on her behalf to ensure her release.

WrestleVotes then weighed in on the situation, reporting that the word from SmackDown in Minneapolis was that the initial report of Banks being released was true.

This has now been backed up by Reddit user Kermit – who was the first to break the news that Cody Rhodes was WWE-bound. They have gone one step further, however, claiming the release happened “weeks ago”.

“Confirmed: Sasha Banks Released

“Some weeks ago.”

Sasha Banks and Naomi had been scheduled to take part in a six-pack challenge on the May 16th edition of Raw to crown a new number one contender for the Raw Women’s Championship. However, following a disagreement over creative plans, the duo turned in their WWE Women’s Tag Team Title belts and left the show.

WWE released a statement during the show criticising the pair and on the following episode of SmackDown, Michael Cole announced that the two women had been suspended indefinitely. Furthermore, they were stripped of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.

Following the announcement of their suspension, WWE removed all Sasha Banks and Naomi merchandise from their online store, as well as taking them out of the WWE signature at the start of all programming.
