Sasha Banks has reportedly been released by WWE, one month after her controversial walk-out of Monday Night Raw alongside fellow Women’s Tag Team Champion Naomi.
Sasha Banks has been absent from WWE since walking out of an episode of Monday Night Raw alongside her tag team partner Naomi. According to a new report, however, the 6-time Women’s Champion may be done with the promotion altogether!
Per Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc, WWE have allegedly come to terms with the release of Sasha Banks. Giri notes that it is currently unknown whether Banks requested her release or if the move came from within WWE internally.
Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp gave further insight into the situation, explaining that his sources at WWE were unable to confirm the news and talent relations seemed unaware that the release had occurred. However, he added that this doesn’t necessarily mean the initial report was inaccurate.
Banks has been absent from WWE programming since the May 13th edition of Friday Night SmackDown.
She, alongside Naomi, had been scheduled to take part in a six-pack challenge on the May 16th edition of Raw to crown a new number one contender for the Raw Women’s Championship. However, following an alleged disagreement over creative, Banks and her tag partner left the arena with the show in progress. This led to a frantic re-write of the show, with Becky Lynch and Asuka taking the main event spot.
After WWE released a statement during the show criticising the pair, on the following episode of SmackDown, Michael Cole announced that the two women had been suspended indefinitely. Furthermore, they were stripped of the Women’s Tag Team Titles.
Following the announcement of their suspension, WWE removed all Sasha Banks and Naomi merchandise from their online store, as well as taking them out of the ‘Then. Now. Forever’ opening package.
