Sasha Banks Discusses The Greatest Women’s Match Of All Time

Sasha Banks

Sasha Banks has opened up about the match that she considers to be “the greatest women’s wrestling match of all time” and it’s a bout she featured in.

In August 2015 Sasha Banks and Bayley changed women’s wrestling forever with their epic encounter at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn. In a match that was The Boss’ send-off from NXT, Bayley defeated her to capture her first NXT Women’s Championship.

Speaking on The Kurt Angle Show [available early and ad-free at AdFreeShows.com] Sasha Banks joined the WWE Hall Of Famer to discuss the bout and says even six years later, it’s the one people always ask her about:

It’s crazy, that always gets asked to me, it’s just non-stop. But I can remember my whole day of that day. From waking up to going to sleep I remember absolutely everything, and I can’t remember that for anything else. But NXT Brooklyn was something for me, I wanted to leave a legacy and I wanted to leave a stamp on like ‘I’m. The. Greatest. Remember that.'”

With this being the first NXT TakeOver to take place outside the confines of Full Sail University, Banks says the main roster shows that weekend was their competition but she was determined to have the best women’s match ever and believes the two women had precisely that:

“I was leaving NXT, I was giving Bayley the NXT Women’s Championship and I was going to the main roster finally, so it was kind of like a sendoff. But that was our first time having an NXT TakeOver outside of Full Sail, which holds what like 800 people?”

“So we sold out the Barclays Center, so for us, we were competing with Raw, SmackDown, and SummerSlam, so we wanted to be the top of the weekend. We wanted to have the match of the night and I wanted to have the greatest women’s wrestling match of all time, and I feel like that match really is.”

Two months after NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, the two women again made history as Sasha Banks and Bayley made history as the first women to headline a TakeOver as they met at NXT TakeOver: Respect in a 30 minute Iron Woman Match with Bayley retaining her title.
