The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships have been left vacant in the wake of Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out of WWE.

Following Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out of WWE during the live broadcast of the 16 May episode of Monday Night Raw, they have been stripped of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. This was confirmed by Michael Cole during last night’s SmackDown, with Cole also confirming they’d been “suspended indefinitely“.

Sasha and Naomi had won the championships from Carmella and Queen Zelina in a Fatal Four Way match on night two of WrestleMania 38. With the titles being vacated, their reign ends at 47 days after just two televised successful defences.

Sasha Banks and Naomi had been booked to compete in a Six-Pack Challenge in the main event of Raw this past Monday. Issues with the creative surrounding the match and its aftermath led to their decision to walk out of WWE, with the Women’s Tag Team Championships being left with WWE’s Head of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis.

An official WWE statement claimed that the former Team B.A.D members didn’t feel comfortable sharing the ring with two of their scheduled opponents, while also feeling that the Women’s Tag Team Championships weren’t respected within WWE. Many, WWE commentators included, have since slammed their unprofessionalism.

Established in December 2018, there have been a total of thirteen reigns for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Sasha Banks is tied with Nikki A.S.H as having the most reigns; alongside her reign with Naomi, ‘The Legit Boss’ is also a former two-time and inaugural champion with Bayley.

A tournament is currently scheduled to crown the new champions as was stated by Michael Cole on SmackDown, though participants and an official starting date haven’t yet been revealed.
