WWE’s decision to remove all of their merchandise marks the latest development in Sasha and Naomi’s walkout from the company. It was announced on Friday, 20 May’s broadcast of WWE Friday Night SmackDown that they’d been “suspended indefinitely” and had their Women’s Tag Team Championships stripped away from them.
Many are still questioning the legitimacy of the incident, particularly as WWE unusually issued a statement via their website. Neither of the pair has yet commented on the matter, though WWE costume designer Sarath Ton and newly-crowned Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion Jimmy Uso – their respective husbands – have shown support for the pair.
Numerous reports have filled social media since Monday’s Raw, including news that both Sasha and Naomi’s WWE contracts are allegedly set to expire soon. Naomi’s, in particular, is said to be close to ending, with talks between her and WWE having already been held. Following the news of their suspension, it’s unknown when – or if – they’ll resurface on WWE programming.
WWE commentators Corey Graves and Michael Cole, the latter of whom broke the news of their suspension on last night’s SmackDown, have labelled Sasha Banks and Naomi as “unprofessional” and having “let millions of fans down” live on WWE broadcasts over the past few days.
