Fans hoping to see Sasha Banks back in the ring soon might be in for quite a wait.
On July 13th Sasha Banks was back in the news after it was announced that she will be appearing at C2E2 under her real name Mercedes Varnado.
Interestingly, in the announcement there was no mention made of WWE or her Sasha Banks ring name. This has only served to ramp up speculation around her status with WWE, following earlier reports that she had left the company.
A new report from Fightful Select has now offered an update on the situation, including when fans might get to see The Boss return to the ring.
Fightful report that the announcement led to many wrestling conventions to reach out to the star, but they were told that any appearances couldn’t happen in 2022. Organisers who reached out to Banks and her team were quoted a “firm specific, rate.”
Wrestling-related promotors who reached out to Banks were told that she is only taking non-wrestling related bookings until January 1st 2023.
There has still been no official confirmation regarding her WWE future, but one promotor noted that they “can’t imagine her not being released at this point.” WWE talent are also operating under this impression.
It is unclear as to whether Banks holding off on taking wrestling-related bookings is personal preference or something contractual.
Sasha Banks hasn’t appeared on WWE television since walking out of the May 16th episode of Monday Night Raw with her tag team partner Naomi. Both women were later suspended without pay and stripped of their Women’s Tag Team Titles.
The latest update suggests those within WWE believe that Sasha Banks and Naomi are no longer with WWE and that both women have been removed from internal rosters in the company.
