WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, Sasha Banks, has put forth her wish for WWE to implement an annual Queen of the Ring Tournament.
Based on the original King of the Ring idea which was solely intended for the male roster when it was created, Banks’ idea for Queen of the Ring is intended, according to the star, to replace the Evolution pay-per-view event which hasn’t seen the light of day since 2018.
Speaking to ProSieben MAXX, ‘The Boss’ spoke about her interest in Queen of the Ring if WWE were not serious about a second Evolution event:
“I think a whole Queen of the Ring tournament for a whole pay-per-view itself would be really cool, but I’ve been waiting for Evolution 2 for a very long time. So maybe we can do that first, and maybe we can start little matches at Evolution for the Queen of the Ring Tournament. Maybe something like that can happen.”
If structured like it’s predecessor, then Queen of the Ring could be a huge benefit to WWE’s women’s division if it was spread out across all four brands.
Like King of the Ring, which made legitimate stars of men like Owen Hart, Steve Austin, Brock Lesnar and Edge to name just a few, the tournament will be a sure-fire way of either elevating those women who currently tread water on the under-card or a believable way to bring a star such as Rhea Ripley or Kay Lee Ray to the main roster and worldwide attention.
Sasha Banks is currently locked in a bitter feud with Carmella. The pair will clash at WWE Tables, Ladder and Chairs 2020 over the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship.
