Santino Marella has discussed being pickpocketed at a WWE live event and explains how the thief took something more valuable than money from him.
Santino Marella burst onto the WWE scene in a unique fashion when he was plucked from the crowd at a Raw show in Italy to take on Intercontinental Champion Umaga. Incredibly the debuting Marella won and the Milan Miracle was born.
Speaking on Monday Mailbag with Mike Chioda – available exclusively at AdFreeShows.com – Marella discussed going back to his supposed homeland and receiving a hero’s welcome from the Italian crowd. One fan however got a little too close for comfort and managed to snaffle a special souvenir, Santino Marella’s deadly Cobra:
“Oh, I did get one stolen, actually. I was in Italy, we hadn’t been back for a while. So I was studying, practising my Italian and I went back there, and I was Intercontinental Champion for the second time at that time. And, you know, they said, introducing whatever it was – ‘The next match is for the Intercontinental [Title]’ and they went crazy already. And it was a cool moment for me.”
“I came out there and had the match and did the Cobra and after the Cobra I would put it inside the bib of my singlet. And I’m giving high fives and some guy just timed it perfect. And just went and pulled it right out. And I’m giving, I look at him and now he’s behind the guardrail.”
“He just goes kind of like, you know, Homer Simpson. He goes into the bushes. he was like, he was like two metres away from me. Yeah, but he knew I couldn’t get him. There’s like two metres, like eight people or something like that. He kind of filtered back and I was like you got me! You got me, one shot perfectly executed grab. And he was in Italy. Pickpocketed wow.”
