Santana Garrett Was Set To Debut On SmackDown Prior To Release

The world of professional wrestling has once again been rocked this week with further WWE releases announced. Following a litany of departures in April 2021, the company recently announced several more performers whose contracts have been terminated – including Santana Garrett.

Santana Garrett was one of the several performers released by WWE this week. As news continues to circulate online, one particular detail of note is that WWE were allegedly planning to debut Garrett on SmackDown prior to her departure.

Garrett – alongside Braun Strowman, Lana, Buddy Murphy, Ruby Riott and Aleister Black – was recently released from her WWE contract.

The independent veteran first worked with WWE back in 2013 as enhancement talent, before officially signing with the company in August 2019. The former WWE star made her official in-ring debut on a November 2019 episode of NXT in a losing effort against Tay Conti.

Garrett was reportedly called up to the main roster in 2020, but didn’t appear on any of the following episodes of RAW or SmackDown – but did appear at the 2021 Royal Rumble – being eliminated by eventual winner Rhea Ripley.

Following her release, PWI Insider is reporting that plans were in motion to have Garrett debut on SmackDown:

Garrett had been planned to move to the main roster, similar to the recently released Vanesse Bourne, but never actually debuted and had been waiting for her official debut to actually be worked into the storylines.
