Famed indie wrestler EFFY was recently the subject of controversy for a spot he performed, but his opponent – Sandra Moone – has jumped to defend him.
EFFY, an independent pro wrestler from Tallahassee, Florida, has been praised by many for changing the perceptions of LGBTQIA+ performers. This has included making obscene gestures toward his opponents. A recent example of this has caused a squabble amongst wrestling fans.
An encounter with Sandra Moone for the Underground Wrestling Alliance organisation saw the Floridian stand on the turnbuckles, repeatedly thrusting his groin into the face of a prone Moone. Comparisons have since been made between EFFY and the disgraced Joey Ryan.
Prior to being named in the Speaking Out movement and his disgusting behaviour becoming publicly known, Ryan would perform similar mannerisms. In June 2020, several women came forward to accuse the former IMPACT star of sexual assault and harassment, making these correlations to EFFY unjustified.
Sandra Moone has commented on the situation, insisting that the spot was hilarious when “two God tier sports entertainers” put the match together. She continued:
“I love professional wrestling and the people I surround myself with; for y’all to compare anyone as amazing as EFFY to the diabolical POS that y’all are is so weird to me. If you didn’t laugh or think it was funny than it wasn’t for y’all.”
I thought the spot was funny when two god tier sports entertainers put it together, thought it was funny while it was happening, thought it was funny enough after to qt with a goofy caption.
the PAYING fans had an amazing time, I had my dream match, @EFFYlives is my hero.💖😭

UGWA have confirmed that they’ll soon be releasing the entire match for free, hitting back at critics by stating they don’t care if fans “cry about it”.
EFFY has risen to prominence on the independent circuit over the last few years, serving as a stalwart of just about every major North American indie. Alongside Allie Katch, he currently serves as Game Changer Wrestling’s Tag Team Champions; most famously, though, he lost to Jeff Jarrett on the company’s WRLD On GCW card.
