Samoa Joe has discussed Tony Khan buying Ring Of Honor and confirmed that he was trying to push WWE into buying the company for the tape library.
The 3-time NXT Champion stunned fans at ROH Supercard of Honor XV when he made a shock appearance to close the show, marking his first Ring of Honor appearance in seven years. Joe interrupted Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt’s attack on Lee Moriarty and Undisputed ROH Champion Jonathan Gresham after the main event, locking Dutt in the Coquina Clutch.
Speaking at the post-show media scrum Samoa Joe discussed his thoughts when he heard Tony Khan had bought Ring Of Honor and said he was pushing hard for WWE to buy it during his time with them:
“[Tony Khan buying ROH] was a major surprise to me, especially coming from my former position and how hard I was pushing to buy the library for the other company. It let me know why it was being such a difficult process.”
“When that did come up, at the same, having Tony have it and know how much he loves wrestling and knowing how much he loved ROH and product, just from our meetings and the time knowing each other, I knew it would be good hands. I knew it would be treated with respect and it would be kind of made available to the fans in the best way possible. I was very happy with it.”
Samoa Joe also discussed his thoughts on his WWE release and confirmed that he isn’t in AEW and ROH to be a mentor to anyone but rather to smack people in the mouth.
