Former NXT Champion Samoa Joe has been revealed as the latest inductee into the inaugural class of the Ring Of Honor Hall Of Fame.

Samoa Joe made his name in Ring Of Honor, becoming the longest reigning ROH Champion in company history before going on to dominate in TNA, ultimately joining WWE as part of the NXT brand in 2015.

Ring Of Honor announced Joe as the fourth inductee in the first class of the company’s Hall Of Fame on their website, issuing a statement outlining why Samoa Joe is the perfect candidate for the honour:

“‘The Samoan Submission Machine’ is arguably the most proficient American pro wrestler in the art of strong style, a form of pro wrestling popularized in Japan that emphasizes strikes and submissions.

“In just his10th match in ROH, Joe captured the ROH Title in March 2003. Two months later, Joe officially elevated the championship to world title status when he successfully defended it in London, marking the first time the championship had been defended outside the United States.

“Joe went on to hold the ROH World Championship for a record 645 days and make 31 successful title defenses. It’s not only the longest reign in ROH history, but at the time it was the longest world title reign in any U.S.-based pro wrestling company in 15 years.

“During Joe’s historic reign, he and CM Punk engaged in an epic trilogy of matches that have become legendary. They wrestled to two 60-minute draws before Joe won their final meeting.”

Samoa Joe left WWE after being released from his contract on the 6th of January 2022 alongside fellow NXT stalwarts Road Dogg and William Regal. He was forced to relinquish the NXT Championship he had won for the third time on the 12th of September 2021 due to injury but never reappeared on WWE television. The induction could well be Joe’s first wrestling appearance since he was let go.

Joe joins AEW’s Bryan Danielson and reigning Ring Of Honor Tag Team Champions The Briscoes as the first inductees into the Ring Of Honor Hall Of Fame.

The ROH Hall Of Fame ceremony will air on March 5th, ahead of the company’s comeback show Supercard Of Honor on April 1st, 2022.
